Assessment Results Good News For Te Reo Students
Assessment Results Good News For Students Learning In Te ReoMaoriAssociate Education Minister Rosetta Stone V3 Parekura Horomia saidparents of children in total immersion Maori languageschools can take heart from the latest assessment resultsfor Maori primary school students. The resultsreleased today by the Ministry of Education are based on thesecond series of assessments conducted by the NationalEducation Monitoring Project on the achievement of Maoristudents. The assessments, conducted in 2000, measuredpupils achievement levels in reading, speaking, music, andaspects of technology. Mr Horomia said students did aselection of the same tasks, with the Maori immersionstudents assessed in Maori and other students assessed inEnglish. The latest Rosetta Stone German assessments show that in themajority of cases Maori immersion students did as well as orbetter than the Maori students learning in English. Thesefollow similar results were reported last year for the 1999assessments of science, art, and the use of graphs, tablesand maps.Often parents are taking a leap of faithputting their children into total immersion classes. Theyoften worry about whether their children are keeping up withtheir peers. I think this report will put some of thoseconcerns to rest, said Mr Horomia. The Minister saidparents can be reassured by comments from report authors Terry Crooks and Lester Flockton, who are also the directorsof the National Education Monitoring project. The authorssay the results achieved by Maori immersion students werepromising given the youthfulness of programmes and thechallenges of assessing the same things in two differentlanguages. The fact that Maori immersion programmes alsohave Rosetta Stone Hindi additional goals beyond the national curriculumrequirements is another reason that the results are goodnews.

Women account for 31 percent of the newparliament. Japan is New Zealand's third largest tradingpartner with exports totalling NZ$3.57 billion in2007.Japan is also the fifth most significant source oftourist revenue for New Zealand with 117,743 arrivals in theyear to February 2008, despite a reduction of 12 percentover the previous year. But at a time when Australia hassucceeded in launching a free trade negotiation with Japanand when attention in New Zealand is directed increasinglyto China, there is a need to take steps to ensure that therelevance of the relationship is not lost.In a recentinterview with the New Zealand Herald, Helen Clarkacknowledged that New Zealand's relationship with Japan wasolder than it was with China and that it was important notto take that relationship for granted. The Japan NewZealand Partnership Forum has been organised by the NewZealand International Business Forum (NZIBF) with thesupport of the New Zealand government and the Asia NewZealand Foundation (Asia:NZ).The NZIBF says it hasidentified strengthening the relationship with Japan to asthe first priority in its strategy for enhancing NewZealand's international business engagement. Thinking about the conversation
The four hour flight to Moscow went quickly yesterday as I was traveling Rosetta Stone Software with David Gurteen. It’s being a long time since we were able to spend any time together so there was a lot of catching up to do. I may not forgive him for telling me I had to wear a suit and tie (the second outing this year and as I discovered today unnecessary) but the conversation was good. One of the subjects, which continued with Raj Datta (the third speaker) over dinner, was the debate v discourse question in the context of a spate of high temperature exchanges on two Knowledge Management (KM) list serves in which we are both participants.Thinking about the conversation while listing to How to do KM presentations in Russian (generally vendors with slides from their US parent companies which I seen before and did not believe were valid approaches then, and do not believe will Rosetta Stone Language work now) I was reminded of a quote from Karl Weick (I cannot for the moment validate the phrase or the source, but I think it is from The Social Psychology of Organizing) and a second quote for which a precise origin is probably undiscoverable although many claim it. The two are are:…. learning to argue as if you are right and to listen as if you are wrong (Weick)Strong opinions, weakly held (Anon)Note the importance of assertion in both cases, not a process of consensus, but a willingness to challenge and to be challenged in turn. I think that general reaction of discomfort that comes to assertive behaviour in list serves is at the heart of my concern about investing time in them, compared with extending my conversations in the blogosphere. As a part of deciding where to invest time I am pushing the barriers of tolerance in several list serves as evidenced here. In the above referenced vigorous debates I have been an active participant, and at times this has not been popular (although as ever there is back channel support from people who do not want to engage. However the issues that are coming to the forefront of my thinking are:my Rosetta Stone Hindi liking of robust debate and challenge, both of which are the norm in the blogosphere as opposed to some form of bland supportive consensus.
Peter-Anthony Glick MY RESPONSE
Accounting would no longer rely on quantitative analysis and the value of a company Rosetta Stone would give at least as much importance to qualitative aspects such as its intellectual property, including the specific knowledge of all its collaborators. I will give it a stab - but have snipped the original as its a long post and the reply is long. I should also warn readers that this is a subject that I get passionate about as its too important to leave to liberal idealism (see later)My final conclusion at the end of this post is that there is hope, but that thinking of the knowledge economy in terms of assets or in the models of your first two quotes is hope-less and as likely to be effective as waiting for the return in 2012 of the green feathered serpent god green feathered serpent god of the Maya to restore planetary harmony, or consulting the alien master race who planted humans on earth 3000 years ago to mine for monatomic gold monatomic gold for use in their religious rites.(If anyone things I have gone crazy on this don't - aashington futurist think tank has given both theories credibility)TO PETER's POSTINGEach quote provides an interesting position and possible dispute and in general is very much a "first world" perspective that ignores the possibility of ecological change. The Gopnik quote to the effect that knowledge will be the most valuable currency and that nowledge is a universal human birthright.Response: I think one of the big mistakes people are making is to see knowledge as the new asset type in succession to land and capital. I Rosetta Stone Language think that is wrong for three reasons. i) knowledge is not tangible in the sense of land and capital, an ASSET model (basis of the intellectual capital movement) is therefore inappropriate. (ii) I see no evidence that the capital model has yet been shattered, although it is changing. Money is still the transaction base of knowledge exchange like it or not (and I don't by the way). (iii) For whole economies LAND is still central and may become so again in the west. Water and living space with population growth and global warming by result in a partial reversion to Feudalism. There is a general trend in all of these and your comments to see the world as necessarily progressive which is a dubious proposition. Linked to the above you say ":Everyone in an organization will be empowered and ncouraged to create/innovate making some mistakes along the way but earning a great deal moreResponse: this is the worst form of utopian idealism. Its not going to happen with any asset based economy. You also assume continued growth (see above comments). More harm has been caused to human progress by misplaced idealism, than by repression over the centuries so I think it needs opposing.Csikszentmihalyi on happiness and the idea that people with challenging and clear goals are happiest than those leading relaxing lives. You extend this to say that employers will have to focus on happy employees.Response: well yes and no. In some cases its true but we really don't have enough data to know as so few of the world's people are in a state of Rosetta Stone German voluntary leisure. Yes work and rewarding work is good.
Google on the other hand
I had an interesting exchange with Bill Hall (always a pleasure with Bill by Rosetta Stone the way, he thinks unlike others ...) on the Value networks listserv this week. The subject was Google's inherent moral qualities. It all started withe the list serve being hit by some spam designed to get advertising money through Google. My final summary of the position was accepted by Bill and I reproduce it here. I had half in jest, half seriously suggested that Google had gone over to the dark side. Bill defended them (with qualifications) with particular reference to their provision of hugely useful tools at zero cost bar the odd advert and occasional spam attack. Contextual explanations in italics. We are agreed that Google provides a whole bunch of very useful tools which it would be difficult to live withoutWe are agreed with prosecuting the hell out of anyone who abuses privacy and other lawsWe are agreed that Google Scholar is useful, although I have concerns about its ability to discover trans-disciplinary material or to make the sort of connections I can get in a University Library or via social networks. Interesting (and this has been a point of past disagreement) I find blogs and RSS feeds a more useful search mechanism here.Yes the NSA and GCHQ and others filter data and communications (I had expressed concern about personal data being gathered by Google to assist search, Bill had pointed out that government agencies do it all the time). However, that said, and despite reservations about their control, they are government agencies, ultimately under government control. Google on the other hand is a private companyI do not agree with you on the issue of a monopoly where Google is concerned. (Bill had said: The fact is that Google does not have a monopoly and Microsoft had and still does have one. This is probably going to Rosetta Stone Software make it very difficult to make any kind of case against Google that depends on assuming it has a genuine monopoly. Microsoft's clearly monopolistic practices were enhanced by network externalities that simply don't exist where Google is concerned) No Google is not there with Microsoft yet, but it is close, It is also potentially more dangerous as it is not managing its monopoly by control over technology, but by the utility of its tools. That allows, through acquisition and sheer resource, it to maintain a monopoly outside some of the conventional legal challenges that are possible (cf, the EU challenge to Microsoft). We are probably agreed that there is a possibility (and history would say an inevitability but I am not so sure) that competition will appear to Google not by doing what it does better, but providing a different approach . That is the way of technologyWe may have different views of the potential power of semantics. I think we can get a lot out of them. However I think there are necessary limits to the nature of language and the analysis of language no matter how sophisticated. Here I think Deacon and others work which has destroyed Chomsky's theory of language and the notion of deep structures is going to turn out to be more significant that we thought. The issue of the balance of good and evil is an interesting one. My feeling is that China demonstrated a boundary transition for Google. One of those that once made opens the floodgates. Nicholas Carr, who to my mind is one of the most knowledgeable commentators on technology in general is also starting to raise concerns so its not just me. They are not yet evil, but Rosetta Stone Japanese they have been prepared to engage in evil acts. The history of companies is that they will continue at least to indifference to good, if not specifically to evil.

The teams constructed tunnels and ventilation shafts under piles of smashed bricks
He wrote his last work in Polish in hopes that future generations of Poles and Jews would, together, look honestly at their entwined history."Who Will Write Our History?" is a heroic act of synthesis and contextualization. Ringelblum's diary was published in English in Rosetta Stone Language 1958 and served as the inspiration for John Hersey's novel "The Wall," but until now his work has never been viewed within the rich cultural and social life of Polish Jewry. Kassow renders a plex portrait of the historian, drawing on thousands of documents -- in Yiddish, Polish and Hebrew -- archived at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in New York. In addition, he has sought out and interviewed descendants of the Oyneg Shabes writers. He honors the efforts and restores the names of men and women who wrote though they knew their lives and those of their families and even their culture were doomed. His narrative opens in the ruins of the ghetto. On Sept. 18, 1946, teams of searchers -- Poles and Jews together -- dug through the rubble of what was a school on Nowolipki Street. The ground was unstable. The teams constructed tunnels and ventilation shafts under piles of smashed bricks. "And then a probe hit something solid: a tin box covered in clay and tightly bound in string -- and then nine more," writes Kassow. What they had found was one of three buried caches of the Oyneg Shabes archive. This first cache wasn't welded shut; water seepage and mold ruined many documents and photographs. The Language Learning Software second, packed in rubberized milk cans and discovered by construction workers in 1950, fared better. A search for the third cache yielded only a few charred diary pages. The rest had vanished. One of Ringelblum's biggest fears was that no one would survive to dig up the archive. His fear wasn't unfounded. Of the 50 to 60 members of the society, there were only three survivors: Hersh Wasser (who miraculously escaped a train to Treblinka); his wife, Bluma; and journalist Rachel Auerbach. Without Wasser to direct the search after the war, it's unlikely the archive would have been found.Who were the participants in this unprecedented effort to document the destruction of a munity as it happened? The members of Oyneg Shabes included economists and teachers, rabbis and artisans, businessmen and munists. Kassow's biographies of the "band of rades" are illuminating and heartbreaking as he shows how their participation gave them a sense of purpose in the midst of chaos and despair. Yiddish poet Melekh Ravitch called prewar Warsaw Jewry "a sprawling mosaic of different Jewish tribes and subcultures." There were Zionists, socialists and munists. There were those who believed in Yiddish as the language of a secular future and assimilationists who spoke only Polish. That spectrum of beliefs was present within Oyneg Shabes, but there was no room for ideological quarrels. Ringelblum made sure his "brotherhood" focused on the task at hand: writing, gathering, copying and burying documents. Apart from the three survivors, hardly any of the society Portuguese Learning Software members had graves, and many left little more than a name. Part of Kassow's magnificent achievement is to help us "hear" their silenced voices by laying out the cultural context that shaped their values.

These discounts are always available, so there is no need to pay full price!

The LDC-IL takes advantage of the giant strides in IT made by India to address the need to enhance the machine-readable language data in Hindi and other Indian language on a large scale. The other major initiative has been the creation of world-class language testing facilities through a special project called the national Testing Service (NTS). English
These researches do not reflect the environment of Bangladesh, because the position Rosetta Stone of English Language in Bangladesh is not same like these countries. Even with the most nearest neighbouring country India. In a small country like Bangladesh, the scope of using other language instead English was very limited from emotional and utilitarian point of view. India is a vast country having a huge variation of language difference, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore these types of developing countries have to depend on their tourism and resources and people from different countries have migrated over there. Naturally, as a part of their integration and political unity, English has been chosen emphatically. So, the scenario is quite different in Bangladesh. But the things are changing with the emphasis given by the government emphasizing on a new era of using skilled manpower as well as exploring the scope of multinational jobs. Now time has come to reconsider English language teaching approach in Bangladesh, because undergraduate syllabuses do not reflect the Communicative Language Teaching Approach rather these still reflect the structural approach. The rise of so many local and foreign English skills training centers are indications of that. If the policy makers would give attention, FM method, Saifurs, Mentors etc. could not promote the language courses as the replacement to the undergraduate English courses of universities. English is needed in Bangladesh not solely for internal use, rather mostly for international use. Bangladesh, as an underdeveloped and overpopulated country of the third world can make her human resources useful in the world perspective, where she is still facing a hard competition and sometimes lagging behind in terms of knowing useful communicative English. The recent government policies can accelerate the Bangladeshi linguists' endeavours in innovating a right approach in the right moment. The approaches to be implemented in Bangladesh should be based on local conditions considering the practical factors.Significance of the Studyangladeshi students are learning English from utilitarian point of view, rather than integrative motivation' (Asian EFL Journal, June, 2005). So, it is necessary to find out Rosetta Stone English the appropriate approach for Bangladeshi students. It involves to analyze the feasible texts and techniques befitting Bangladeshi socioeconomic perspectives because n approach is a set of corelative assumptions dealing with the nature of language teaching and learningt describes the subject matter to be taughthere method is an overall plan' (Richards amp; Rogers, p1430, 2002)The history of English teaching in Bangladesh is rather less smooth in comparison to that with neighboring countries as it had to face some problems. Before the independence of Bangladesh, status of English language was tagged with the crucial policy taken by the authority who tried to impose their mother tongue as national language of Bangladesh. So, the attention of the Bangladeshi educational policy makers was to stay with Bangla language, perhaps, they didn't find the ample scope to improve the English or could not go for researches as the concentration was from emotional point of view. After liberation in 1971, the scenario started changing. After the freedom war of 1971, Bangladeshi curriculum in undergraduate levels were mostly based on English as Urdu was hated, and Bangla text books were not prepared in a large scale. So, the importance was given on GrammarTranslation method as the policy makers were influenced and preoccupied by structural methods. The syllabuses of secondary, higher secondary and undergraduate levels were influenced purely based on by the extracts or texts from English literature and language ruled by grammar. World trend of CLT was almost absent in that time. The emotional implement of he Bangla Procholon Ain1987' was a shock to the progress of English. It actually restricted the use of English in any type of official communication and correspondences and thus English was ignored from the sociocultural domain. The policy makers were influenced by the BPA act, 1987 because it influenced as ackground to the policy decisions and the current status of English' (Banu amp; Sussex, 2001). The Rosetta Stone Arabic necessity of learning English language was felt tremendously and so, in the year 1989, English was introduced as a compulsory subject in colleges and universities covering the Higher Secondary and Undergraduate syllabuses.

As Rosta Stone wrote in September, "Playing St. Jimmy ounts to Armstrongs biggest show of support y for the show, which last week played to half-full houses. (Last night appeared to be sold out.)" May 4, 2009 5:13 PM More than five years after Jan Jacksons infous "wardrobe malfunction" shocked Rosetta Stone software millions of ericans watching Super Bowl XXXVIII with a flash of nudity, Nipplegate continues to live on, in the courts. After an appeals court last year threw out the $550,000 fine CBS owed the FCC, the Supreme Court announced today that the case will be reviewed again to see if CBS is indeed responsible for the incident. The Supreme Courts ruling comes just one week after they upheld FCC policy that levies fines for any and all curses on live television, even if its just a one-time Rosetta Stone Greek outburst, the AP reports.CBSs fine was tossed by a lower court last year, which found that the Super Bowl incident was "fleing" as it lasted a mere 9/16ths of a second. Per the BBC, 90 million viewers were watching the halftime show when Justin Timberlake tore off a piece of Jacksons bra near the end of his "Rock Your Body"; CBS received 542,000 complaints. The Supreme Court has asked Philadelphias 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals to consider reinstating the fine. CBS said in a statement that they were confident the court would again find in their favor and drop the fine, arguing the nwork could not have anticipated what ultimately happened onstage bween Jackson and Timberlake.Since 2004s fous "wardrobe malfunction," the Super Bowl has stuck to classic rockers unlikely to spontaneously disrobe for Rosetta Stone Hindi V3 its half-time shows, inviting Paul McCartney, the Rosta Stones, Prince, Tom Pty the Heartbreakers, and most recently Bruce Springsteen and the E Stre Band onto its stage.
Revolutionary leaders gained control of Durango in 1911
Later in the decade, Pedro Celestino Negrete overthrew Durangos Spanishroyalists and Rosetta Stone outlet rallied support for the countrys independence. Durango, along with other Mexican states, signed the Plan of Iguala in 1821, which freed Mexico from Spanish rule.Recent HistoryIn 1825, Durango was officially recognized as a Mexican state and soon after drafted a constitution. Santiago Baca Ortz became the first constitutional governor, and conservatives controlled the state for the next 25 years.A major concern in the Durango capital during the latter part of the 19th century was persistent violence by Tarauhmaras and Tepehuanos Indians as well as Apaches who drifted into the region from the north. Because it was necessary for Durangos local government to devote extensive time, money and manpower to defending the city, the state had little influence on or involvement in national issues. When Porfirio Daz became Mexicos president in 1876, federal troops were sent to Durango to suppress the Indian uprisings. The effort helped stop Rosetta Stone German attacks on Durangos businesses and citizens and restored order to the state. In 1910, influential political and private groups in Durango banded together under Francisco Madero to oppose President Daz, whose 30 years in office were plagued by accusations of corruption and a failure to enact social justice. Revolutionary leaders gained control of Durango in 1911. Domingo Arrieta helped the state adopt a new constitution in 1917, and peace returned to the area. After the revolution, the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (Institutional Revolutionary Party) emerged as the states most powerful political party.During the 1920s, skirmishes and political and social unrest were common in Durango Rosetta Stone Greek as in the rest of the country. By the end of the decade, however, peace had generally been restored.
The process of inculturation of thefaith
The process of inculturation of thefaith, which has marked the history of these peoples down totoday, was Rosetta Stone V3 carried out through the untiring work of themissionaries who came from Constantinople.4. Ukraine, land blessed by God, Christianity is an inseparable part ofyour civil, cultural and religious identity! You havefulfilled and continue to fulfil an important mission withinthe great family of Slav peoples and in Eastern Europe. Drawfrom the common Christian roots the living sap which willcontinue to flow through the branches of your ecclesialcommunities in the third millennium.Christians ofUkraine, may God help you to look back together to the nobleorigins of your nation. May he help you to rediscovertogether the solid grounds for a respectful and courageousecumenical journey, a journey of coming closer and of mutualunderstanding, favoured by good will on the part ofeveryone. May the day of restored communion among all thedisciples of Christ come soon, that communion for which theLord ardently prayed before his return to the Father (cf. Jn17:20-21).5. I now greet you, the Representatives of theother Religions and Religious Organizations, who work inclose cooperation with Christians in Ukraine. This is atypical quality of your land which, on account of itsparticular position and make-up, is a natural bridge notonly between East and West, but also between the peoples whohave been here together for several centuries. These arepeople who differ as regards historical origin, culturaltradition and religious belief. I wish to recall thesignificant presence of the Jews, who form a community whichis solidly rooted in Ukrainian society and culture. They toosuffered injustices and persecutions for having remainedfaithful to the Rosetta Stone Latin America Spanish religion of their ancestors. Who can everforget the immense tribute of blood which they paid to thefanaticism of an ideology propounding the superiority of onerace over others? Here, in Kyiv, at Babyn Yar, during theNazi occupation countless people, including over 100,000Jews, were killed within a few days. This is one of the mostatrocious of the many crimes which the history of the lastcentury unhappily has had to record.May the memory ofthis episode of murderous frenzy be a salutary warning toall. What atrocities is man capable of, when he foolshimself into thinking that he can do without God! The desireto set himself up in opposition to God and to combat everyform of religion showed itself in an overbearing way also inatheistic and Communist totalitarianism. In this city, thismemory lives on in the monuments to the victims ofHolodomar, to those killed at Bykivnia, to those who died inthe Afghanistan war, to mention but a few. May the memory ofsuch painful experiences help humanity today, especially theyounger generation, to reject every form of violence and togrow in respect for human dignity, by safeguarding thefundamental rights rooted in it, not least the right toreligious freedom.6. To the memory of the massacre of theJews, I wish to add that of the crimes committed by thepolitical power against the Muslim community in Ukraine. Iam thinking in particular of the Tartars deported from theCrimea to the Asiatic Republics Rosetta Stone Arabic of the Soviet Union, who nowwish to return to their land of origin. In this regard, allow me to express the hope that through open, patient andpersevering dialogue suitable solutions will be found, always in a climate of sincere tolerance and practicalcooperation for the common good.
Document, by leave, laidon the Table of the House.Air New Zealand--Engineering
Nandor Tanczos: Since the Ministerclearly is concerned about abuse of alcohol by under-agedrinkers, do the Government and its confidence and supplypartners support the proposal by the Green Party toreinstate the ban on advertising of alcohol on broadcastmedia? Hon. PHIL GOFF: The Rosetta Stone V3 Government itself has nolegislative intentions to further control advertising ofliquor. Again, that is a matter that has been voted on inthis House on a conscience basis. I personally believe thatlifestyle advertising of alcohol is harmful and needs to becontrolled. Shane Ardern: I seek leave to table aletter from the Hon. George Hawkins, Minister of Police, dated 6 June to myself, stating that there is a need forsome legislative requirement. Document, by leave, laidon the Table of the House.Air New Zealand--EngineeringServices 2. GERRY BROWNLEE (NZ National--Ilam) to theMinister of Transport: Does he stand by his statement in theHouse yesterday, ``The engineering services of Air NewZealand are second to none. They are a very valuable part ofthat company and they have an envious recordinternationally.'', if so, why? Hon. PAUL SWAIN(Minister of Transport): Yes, because I meant what Isaid. Gerry Brownlee: How can the Minister be confidentthat that valuable part of the company will continue to havean envious record, when Air New Zealand is not only losingbits off its planes, but is also cutting out 22.5 percent ofits maintenance budget, and replacing the seniorvice-president of operations and technical services with MrCraig Sinclair, the former chief executive officer of theAirways Corporation, who has no technical aviationengineering experience or qualifications, thereby leavingthe entire senior management and board of the companywithout any expertise in aviation engineering? Hon.PAUL SWAIN: With regard to the budget, the decline in thatis due to the downturn in the aviation industry, particularly following September 11. Gerry Brownlee:Stop maintaining the place. Hon. PAUL SWAIN: That is afact. As far as the second thing is concerned, as I saidyesterday, Air New Zealand and the Civil Aviation Authorityare taking the Rosetta Stone Latin America Spanish matter seriously, and treating it as a highpriority. They want to determine with as much certainty asthey can whether the incident was due to human error, process flaws, or a combination of both. Helen Duncan:Can the Minister tell the House what airlines and agencieshave recognised the quality of Air New Zealand's engineeringservices? Hon. PAUL SWAIN: Air New Zealand hascontracts to provide engineering and maintenance servicewith almost all the airlines operating aircraft into NewZealand, including United Airlines, KLM Royal DutchAirlines, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, ThaiAirways, and Qantas. In addition, Air New Zealand holdsapproval to undertake maintenance from the United StatesFederal Aviation Administration, the European JointAirworthiness Authority, and the Australian Civil AviationSafety Authority. Finally, Air New Zealand also holdsapproval to provide maintenance for the Royal New ZealandAir Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the UnitedStates Air Force and Air National Guard, servicing Herculesand other military aircraft. Peter Brown: Noting thatit is in everybody's interest that Air New Zealand maintainsits reputation and carries more and more passengers, whatassistance does the Minister believe Air New Zealandrequires to improve its engineering services, and what isthe Minister doing to ensure that that is achieved? Hon. PAUL SWAIN: I am pleased to note that the member hasacknowledged the importance of everyone supporting Air NewZealand engineering at the moment. In terms of what theGovernment is doing, as I said yesterday, there areinvestigations already under way. It is important that wesee the results of those investigations. As far asindividual assistance is concerned, that is considered onthe basis of recommendation from the authorities undertakingthe investigations. Deborah Coddington: If this was anyother airline and not an airline owned by the Government, would that airline be grounded for having 120 out of 124bolts missing? Hon. PAUL SWAIN: All airlines aretreated equally when it comes to safety issues. LarryBaldock: Can the Minister confirm whether the relevantsafety authorities were aware of the other incidentsadmitted to by Air New Zealand in this morning's DominionPost article, if so, had the Minister been given thatinformation also? Hon. PAUL SWAIN: I cannot confirmthat. Gerry Brownlee: Does the Minister have anyconcern that, at a time when Air New Zealand seems to beregularly Rosetta Stone Arabic losing bits off its planes, it is about to have amanagement structure and a board membership that has noexpertise on aviation engineering or safety at all? Hon. PAUL SWAIN: The first part of the question is aboutsafety, and of course there are concerns about safety. Thatis why independent investigations are under way.
The meeting in my conference room
The meeting in my conference room at five o'clockfive days a week could be the most important meeting thatoccurs in Washington on terrorism, because operational andanalytic decisions are made on the spot about globalterrorism, al-Qa'ida, Afghanistan, the terrorist threat Rosetta Stone fromchemical, biological, and radiological weapons, and thefinancial war on terrorism. Representatives from all themajor agencies are there. Obviously, terrorism is anissue on which the DCI chooses to spend an enormous amountof personal time. I spend it at the strategic level, thetactical level, and understanding our operations andanalysis. There is not a more dangerous threat to thecountry than this. I am personally involved with our liaisonpartners, often making direct phone calls for operationaldiscussions. In the Millennium period alone I personallytalked with 20 of our liaison partners to alert them to ourfindings about targets and the need to go after them. Everyvisit I take overseas has a counterterrorism or al-Qa'idacomponent to it. That was the reality of my job beforeSeptember 11 and it is the reality now. I continue to devotethe greatest proportion of my time to the war on terror, just as I did before 9/11. Operations are more complex now,and counterterrorism is intensely operational. There is aconstant flow of new data, new threat reporting, new people, and new relationships. There are new and bigger actors onthe scene, because there is a very different set ofrelationships with the military than existed before 9/11. Ihave a close working relationship with the Central Commandand with the Special Operations Command that is differenttoday and very intense. CIA is engaged in direct support toour military in counterterrorism operations in Iraq andAfghanistan and in other theatres of operation on a scalenot seen since Vietnam. 27 There is a difference inthe pace and scope of my relationship with the FBI, now thatwe have created a common threat matrix and common datapoints that we review and discuss each day. We have morejoint investigations and CIA support to theirinvestigations. From a technical perspective we arecollecting a lot more data Rosetta Stone Spanish Latin because we have a lot more peoplein the fight than we ever had before. We are managing acollection process that integrates the National SecurityAgency and a new and very important Information OperationsCenter. We can integrate them with a Foreign IntelligenceSurveillance Act process in a way that was never donebefore. - Specifically, the Patriot Act aut horizedintelligence officials engaged in the collection of foreignintelligence under the FISA to consult with law enforcementpersonnel in order to coordinate efforts to investigate orprotect against threats to national security. -Additionally, law enforcement personnel are required by thePatriot Act to share with the DCI foreign intelligenceobtained during criminal investigations. - Finally, thePatriot Act gave me the authority to establish requirementsand priorities for the collection of foreign intelligenceinformation pursuant to the FISA, an authority that I haveexercised. We have a very robust analytical effort thatis substantially bigger than before. Additionalsupplemental funding provided by the Congress has providedan enormous amount of impetus. From a managementperspective, we have a much bigger cadre of people workingthe problem than we ever had before. We also learned that wecould not fight this war effectively without a trusting, professional, dedicated set of liaison partners to help withcollection and operations. Whoever sits in this job isgoing to be right in the middle of countering terror fortheir entire time in office. It does not matter who it is.Yes, we have Rosetta Stone American English broken down a lot of stovepipes. But, there arestill things you work on all the time. The big managementmoral of the story is that you have got to be here doing ithands-on in a continuous way.

Why change these provision
This amendment will assist the road constructionindustry by allowing heavier special-type vehicles to bedriven on a Class 1 licence in low speed situations. Adriver of these vehicles would still need to be trained intheir safe Rosetta Stone V3 operation and under OSH legislation, employershave an obligation to ensure their drivers are adequatelytrained. These changes enable employees in the roadconstruction industry to drive heavier construction vehicleson lower classes of driver licence. A driver will still betrained in the safe operation of these vehicles as they musthold the appropriate F, R, T or W endorsement.Special-type vehicles that run on wheels are treatedslightly differently, as they often travel at low speedseven though they are capable of higher speeds. To managethe risk posed by allowing holders of a lower licence classto drive heavywheels vehicles, a speed restriction of 30km/h will be imposed. That's why I'vespent a great deal of my time reaching out to MuslimAmericans
They seek toportray the West as in conflict with Islam, because that'sthe window into which they recruit people. Yet, their worldview is wrong. I was interested in hearing that the youngwoman who spoke on the tape earlier feeling like Rosetta Stone she had tobe an ambassador for her faith because Muslims and Islam area part of America. Islam is not in conflict with America.Islam is part of America. As a government official, Irepresent an estimated 6-7 million Muslims Americans wholive and work and practice their faith very freely in ourcountry. One of the things that people who visit here fromother countries always tell me is that they are amazed byhow free Americans are to practice their differentreligious faiths. We must undermine the extremists by empowering mainstream voices and demonstrating our respectfor Muslim cultures and contributions. That's why I'vespent a great deal of my time reaching out to MuslimAmericans because I believe they can be a very importantbridge and link to Muslim communities across our world. The third strategic objective is that I work to foster asense of common interests and common values betweenAmericans and people of different countries and cultures andfaiths. Now that sounds pretty simple right -- nurturecommon interest and common values -- but actually it wasdriven home to me during a meeting I had with the belovedformer Ambassador Frank Wisner who told me: "Karen, particularly in a time of war, particularly in a time ofthreats around the world, it is very important that we don'tjust talk about our common but that we also nurture andseek to foster a sense of those common interests: the importance of family, of faith, the need for opportunity andjustice and respect for each other." I found no matterwhere I travel in the Arab world, in the wider Islamiccommunities around the world, in America, in Europe, most human beings want the fundamentally the same things. We Rosetta Stone Italian wantto live a life of good purpose, to be respected for who weare, to have the opportunity to say what we think, to havethe opportunity to go to work and support our families andhave good jobs that we feel we make a difference, to educateour children, boys and girls. Most people want the freedomto worship as our conscience dictates. We want a betterfuture for those who come after us. We must build onthese common values, I saw them called islands of health andstrength, so that those of you young people participating inthis conference will inherit a safer and stronger andbetter world, not a more divided and dangerous one. Now,it's important I think to notice that a couple of thosestrategic objectives that I just talked about are notfocused only on the war on terror. Even Rosetta Stone Korean though the presssometimes portrays my job as being outreach only to the Muslim world, that's really only a part of it. We alsoseek in public diplomacy to nurture and strengthen ourtransatlantic relationships, our relationships with ourneighbors in this hemisphere and Central and South Americaare incredibly important. President Bush asked me to makeLatin America a priority. We also try to establishrelationships with people even when we don't haverelationships with their government to try to providereliable information and establish relationship as best wecan in countries such as Cuba and Iran. To promote thisworldwide conversation, we rely on a set of tactics that Icall the Four E's.
These are people who might not otherwise get thebasic health care they need to realize a better tomorrow
The Comfort was also going to partner with the Departmentof Health and Human Services on a new initiative to provideoral care to the region's poor. Dentists and hygienists willfill cavities and treat infections and provide treatment forthe young children. At the same time, military medicalteams Rosetta Stone outlet will be operating inland to help bring treatment andcare to other communities. These teams do everything fromvaccinating people against disease to building new medicalclinics. The United States military is a symbol of strengthfor this nation. There's also a symbol of the greatcompassion of the American people and our desire to helpthose in our neighborhood who need help. With thedeployment of the Comfort and the work of the military teamswe're making it absolutely clear to people that we care. Onegood example is an area of Nicaragua. Santa Teresa is arural area where 250 U.S. airmen, soldiers and Marines arenow working with 30 members of the Nicaraguan army to builda medical clinic. Any families in the area live at homesbuilt of scrap wood with dirt floors and doorless entryways. For most of them, a doctor is too far away, or tooexpensive. One man in Santa Teresa says, "The impact of thisclinic is going to be tremendous." I want you to hear thewords of a fellow from Nicaragua. He said, "We're so gladyou're here. People around here are noticing that the UnitedStates is doing something for them." And my message to theman is, we're proud to do so, and we do so because webelieve in peace and the dignity of every human being on theface of the Earth. (Applause.) Helping people reach theirpotential requires a commitment to improving housing. Astrong housing industry can be an Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 engine of economic growthand social stability and poverty reduction. Most LatinAmerican capitals' high prices and high interest rates makegood housing hard to afford. So the United States islaunching a new effort to help build a market for affordablehousing. Through the Overseas Private InvestmentCorporation, we've provided more than $100 million that isbeing used to help underwrite mortgages to working familiesin Mexico and Brazil and Chile and the countries of CentralAmerica. Now we're going to provide another $385 million toexpand these programs and help put the dream of homeownership within the reach of thousands of more people inour neighborhood. On these three vital social issues --education and health care and housing -- we're making adifference across the Americas. You see, by investing inprograms and empower people, we will help the workingfamilies of our hemisphere build a more hopeful future forthemselves. Finally, social justice requires economiesthat make it possible for workers to provide for theirfamilies and to rise in society. For too long and in toomany places, opportunity in Latin America has beendetermined by the accident of birth rather than by theapplication of talents and initiative. In his many writings,Pope John Paul II spoke eloquently about creating systemsthat respect the dignity of work and the right to privateinitiative. Latin America needs capitalism for thecampesino, a true capitalism that allows people who startfrom nothing to rise as far as their skills and their hardwork can take them. So the United States is helping thesenations build growing economies that are open to the world, economies that will provide opportunity to their people. One of the most important ways is by helping to relievethe burden of debt. In the past, many Rosetta Stone English nations in this regionpiled up debt that they simply cannot repay. Every yeartheir governments have to spend huge amounts of money justto make interest payments on the debt. So under myadministration, we worked with the Group of 8 industrializednations to reduce the debt of Latin America and Caribbeannations by $4.8 billion.

After more than five years running theproject I am no longer able to pay the server costs. I amalso physically unable to properly support the project on myown as I have recently moved to Titirangi where I only havedial-up internet access. My work commitments also meant Iwas unable to deal with a recent server problem quicklyenough when enzyme was (dos'd) attacked constantly and emailspam was clogging the sites arteries. I am not only callingfor donations, but volunteers and/or a project coordinatorwho could give the project a new direction and energy. Infive years, Enzyme has hosted over 200 websites, continuesto host over 40, has donated 78 urls, crashed 5 times andchanged server four times. Running the site costs around$800 a year for the hosting and several hundred more forurls each year. Since 2003 the project has cost over $7000.I am eternally grateful for the help given me by volunteersover the years Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 when I've needed time away from thecomputer. But the real blow came last year when SolidEnergy cost the project a further $2,000 in legal fees whenI refused to remove the Save Happy Valley Coalition's mockSolid Energy Environmental Report from their website.In2005, I called for donations when I was last in financialtrouble. Over $1,000 was raised and it enabled me to getthrough a financially tough period and back on my feet andsupporting the project again. If you're an Enzyme user, don't jump ship yet. I can keep the project running and havethe option to slightly downgrade some little used serviceswhich will halve the cost of the server. But I still believethere is a lot that can be done with the project and onlywith new energy from others. It never quite became what Ihad intended (an online activist web-hub) and it has had afew hiccups over the years, but I think Enzyme has played animportant role for those not wanting commercial,advertising-ridden or data-mining Gmail-type hosting andemail. Ok I wanna help, what can I do?Donations: Alldonations can be made to: ASB BANK, MR S A OOSTERMAN12-3061-0238825-000 (You may only need two 0's) ReferenceENZYME. UN Daily News For 12 December, 2008
UN Daily News For 12 December, 2008From The UnitedNations News ServiceBAN Rosetta Stone software URGES UN RIGHTS COUNCIL TORISE ABOVEPARTISAN POSTURING AND REVIEW ALLSTATESThe United Nations Human Rights Council marked the60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of HumanRights in a special session today, with Secretary-GeneralBan Ki-moon calling on it to rise above partisanposturing and regional divides and review the record ofevery State. We have come a long way since theDeclarations adoption. But the reality is that we havenot lived up to its vision at least not yet, Mr. Bantold the Council in Geneva. Abject poverty, shamefuldiscrimination and horrific violence continue to plaguemillions of people. As we mark this milestone, we must alsoacknowledge the savage inhumanity that too many people inour world must endure. There is no time to rest. ThisCouncil can have a tremendous impact. But you, its members, must rise above partisan posturing and regional divides. Oneway to do this is with continued vigilance in carrying outthe Universal Periodic Review, which assesses the humanrights records of all States. The Council must address humanrights abuses wherever they occur. With childrenreading out articles of the Declaration in their nationallanguages, Council President Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi said60 years on, the text continued to be a living and relevantdocument for all, carrying its fundamental message to peopleeverywhere in the world.Noting that the Declaration wasborn following the utter devastation of the Second WorldWar, Mr. Ban stressed that the General Assembly was stilladding to the human rights edifice with such texts as therecently adopted Optional Protocol to the InternationalCovenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the treatyagainst enforced disappearances and the covenant enshriningthe rights of the disabled. The world did not adoptsuch animpressive list of human rights instruments just toput them on a shelf somewhere at the United Nations, hesaid. These should be living documents that can bewielded by experts who scrutinize country reports or assessindividual complaints. UN High Commissioner for HumanRights Navi Pillay also stressed that the Declaration gaveimpulse to a wide and growing legal architecture as well asadvocacy vehicles. Today, the principles it embodied hadfound an echo in the constitutions and laws of more than 90countries, and dedicated international, regional andnational mechanisms, including her Office and the Council, she said.Mr. Ban praised the role of non-governmentalorganizations (NGOs) and the media in helping to upholdhuman rights. Courageous journalists have risked and losttheir lives to report on threats against others. Thisanniversary is a milestone for them, too a day on whichto stress again the need for media to be free to do theirjob, and free of harassment, intimidation and worse, headded.Speaking to the press later, Mr. Ban said that itis necessary and desirable that the United States takes partas a member of the Human Rights Council. I would expectand hope that the next Administration will seriously andpositively consider my call on this matter. He alsonoted his recent conversations with President-elect BarackObama and other US officials, saying that he expects the newAdministration to be much more actively engaged with the UNon climate change, the anti-poverty targets with a 2015deadline known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),and other issues on the world bodys agenda. In Rosetta Stone Spain Spanish hismessage to the commemorative meeting, UN InternationalLabour Organization (ILO) Director-General Juan Somavia saidthe Declaration placed respect for human rights andfundamental freedoms squarely in the context of the fightagainst poverty and the promotion of social progress.Butits goals and aspirations still remained distant andunrealized for millions of working women and men worldwide,he stressed. The current economic turmoil required all themore a focus on ensuring respect for human rights.Inanother message to the session, the Commissioner-General ofthe UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in theNear East (UNRWA) said fatality figures for the occupiedPalestinian territory had surely to make the world questionits commitment to upholding the right to life, the mostfundamental of all rights. More than 500 Palestinians hadbeen killed this year as a result of the conflict and 11Israelis had lost their lives this year, she noted.Theright to freedom of movement enshrined in the UniversalDeclaration also remained a distant hope for manyPalestinians. With an estimated 10,000 Palestinians inIsraeli prisons, the declaration that everyone had the rightto liberty and security of person and that no one should besubjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment had a sadresonance today, she added. In Gaza, more than half of thepopulation now lived below the deep poverty line. This was ahumanitarian crisis, but one that was deliberately imposedby political actors. Overarching all these rights was theright of self-determination, a right of which Palestinianshad been deprived through 60 years of exile anddispossessions, she declared. The chasm between word anddeed was a matter of puzzlement to manyPalestinians. But this can be reversed and protectionis the place to start, she said. Let us make theprotection of Palestinian rights the byword of all ourinterventions. Let us make the vision of the signatories ofthe Universal Declaration a reality, continued failure to doso is to our universal shame. In New York renownedpianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, a UN Messenger ofPeace who will perform in a commemorative concert in theGeneral Assembly on Monday with the West-Eastern DivanOrchestra composed of Arab and Israeli youth, told a newsconference that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could onlybe solved when each side accepted the rights of theother. And our very modest project of the West-EasternDivan is precisely that. It is not Rosetta Stone English a political project, itis a human project that brings together people that alreadyhave something in common, he said, noting that theperformers would be Egyptian, Iranian, Israeli andSyrian.
You Can Learn A Second Language No Matter What
The other day I typed in "Language Schools" into Google and came up with Rosetta Stone outlet a whopping 95 million hits. After popping my eyes back into my head, I wondered just how many public schools, junior colleges, and universities are offering second language learning opportunities in the United States. That must be an equally mind-boggling yet mysterious figure. The ultimate mystery in all of this is really why, with all the opportunities to learn a second language, are so few Americans bilingual? The truth of the matter is that about 9% of Americans have a true bilingual ability. Yet, there are so many public and private schools offering second language instruction not to mention the booming business in the foreign countries offering Americans the chance of "becoming fluent" in another language. With all of these opportunities, Americans remain at about 9% with Europeans at a 52% bilingual rate. Have you ever wondered why? I have. For the past five years, I have been approaching my second language-learning odyssey using non-traditional approaches. I did not start with grammar first courses. You know what those are. If you took any sort of second language learning instruction in school, including Latin or Greek, you began learning the dead or live language with a grammar book. What this effort got you, if you "stayed the course" was an ability to translate written texts. The almost universal experience of students who begin their second language learning adventure using the grammar-first method is that when they try to speak the language, or even go overseas for a year abroad, all they can utter is,"I need to go to the bathroom and can I have a cheese sandwich, please?"The way in which all of us, no matter Rosetta Stone Spanish Spain our country of origin, learned how to speak our native tongue is the same way in which we must approach second language acquisition. Note I said, acquisition, and not learning the second language. There is a difference and therein lies the rub when it comes to selecting a course of study where you will first acquire a high degree of spoken fluency before learning grammar rules.Let me go out on a limb here: If you do not approach the learning of a second language first with second language acquisition, instead of a grammar-first approach, you will not learn how to speak the language. And, is that not what we are talking about--spoken fluency? One method accomplishes one thing while the other method gives you something you do not necessarily want. I am a long way from being able to read and discuss physics in Spanish. But, I can discuss simple news events, go to the doctor, or do most anything I need to do in Spanish. I want to grow linguistically where I will have the ability to discuss issues that are even more complex.Right now, I am still in the child stage of Spanish acquisition and that's ok. Note carefully, however, I did not get to that stage by taking a grammar-first course. I can do what most five and six-year old native Spanish speakers can do. Trust me when I tell you this: This level of spoken fluency most Americans I know struggling to learn Spanish would kill to achieve. So, how did I do it? I used the same method I unknowingly used learning my first language, English. I am learning Spanish using the same approach all Spanish-fluent native speakers used in learning Spanish as children.I am engaging in second language acquisition first, and second language Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 learning second. The horse, language acquisition, must come before the cart, language learning. That is what you must seek first.
How to Define Culture Shock in The Philippines
Culture shock in the The Philippines is a differenthurdle for an American, a European Rosetta Stone V3 or an Australian to handle. In July 2009 I came to The Philippines for an extended stay. My major reason was to be with my (still relatively new) family in this third world nation of over 7,100 tropical islands.I had been here for two months in 2008, so what I'm about to tell you was not as big a shock this second time around. In the event you might want to consider traveling to The Philippines, or perhaps you're thinking of an inexpensive retirement destination, you need to understand the culture shock you'll be faced with. That culture shock is caused by numerous factors which I'll enumerate in this article. While all that I'm about to tell you is true, it's also true that The Philippines is full of kind, gentle and smiling people. The Philippines is Rosetta Stone Spanish Latin predominantly Catholic, thanks to the Spanish, who ruled for centuries. Religion in The Philippines, unlike in some countries, is not considered politically incorrect. Thanks to that fact, most Filipinos are openly religious. They are also extremely generous overall. Instructions 1Huh???Realize it's a different language and all that might entail..There are also numerous (over 80) dialects within the Philippines, with each dialect being so different that it may as well be considered a different language rather than a dialect. There are completely different words for an object or action from one dialect to another. This can cause miscommunication and misunderstandings. These miscommunications can also occur If a native person speaks English. Consider that English often isn't taught in many other countries exactly the same way that we learn it in Europe, Australia or America. Body Rosetta Stone Spain Spanish language also has new meaning. Misunderstandings are common, even in my family. This is step one of understanding or defining culture shock in the Philippines2And this is December!Consider climate differences.Often there are different climates in different parts of the world. Are you really going to be comfortable where the winter temperatures are like summer in Los Angeles, but the air is much more humid? A little more culture shock for you.3This is a tricycleThink about local transportation.Driving patterns and habits can be more foreign than you might imagine.Although accidents are rare, driving in The Philippines seems haphazard at best. Traffic laws are rarely enforced. The most common private vehicle in The Philippines is the small motorcycle. Then there's the public transportation. This is how the vast majority of Filipinos get around.Even If, like most, you choose to take that public transportation, you might learn that's quite foreign as well. For example, in The Philippines there are no taxis except in the largest cities and no local bus lines. For local transportation, you'll find a tricycle is the norm. What? A tricycle? Yes, a tricycle. Remember, we're talking about a third world country where poverty is pandemic. People cannot afford $20 taxi rides here.In The Philippines a tricycle is a small, 100 to 150CC motorcycle [ Rosetta Stone Software ] with a welded-on sidecar for more passengers. To see what one looks like, see the photo in the upper left part of this step.Often times a tricycle driver travels at a speed of about 10 to 20 M.P.H. so as to conserve gasoline and traverse the rough roads without throwing off any of his passengers. Many times some of those passengers are riding on the sides and top of the sidecar.
